Week 4           Archaeology

Replacement of prehistoric groups by Homo sapiens

Numerous prehistoric groups were documented to have been replaced by Homo sapiens as it spread across Eurasia: the Neanderthals, the Denisovans (a group known only from DNA, but more primitive than Neanderthals), and the 3-foot-tall Homo floresiensis which lived on islands in Indonesia as late as 18,000 years ago. It is likely than many groups we do not know about were similarly replaced by our ancestors.
