Modern Homo sapiens and the Diaspora

Modern Homo sapiens disperses first in Africa between 200,000-100,000 years ago and then in the rest of the world over the last 100,000 years. As we transition to anatomically modern Homo sapiens the story of Humankind becomes much less biological and much more cultural. We trace migrations genetically and cultural events archaeologically. Click to Week 4 to follow humankind's journey archaeologially, first reviewing pre-human tool use, then tracing material culture from the earliest Homo sapiens to the dawn of civilization.
