At 500 thousand years ago Homo erectus is alive and well across Eurasia, using classic Acheulean technology across it range. In Africa a new form with a larger brain emerges. Many refer to the group as Homo rhodesiensis or Homo heidelbergensis. The average cranial capacity for the group in about 1,200-1,300 cc's, and they are the ancestors of both Neantherthals and our own species, Homo sapiens. The develop new tool technologys, like discoid cores, which later spread to Eurasia. It appears that during this time Africa was the epicenter of human evolution.
