Approximate age:275 years old=average of minimum (0.00025 Ma) and maximum (0.0003 Ma)

Date based on: Radiocarbon See map of sites with similar ages

Dating reference: Keates, S. G., Hodgins, G. W. L., Kuzmin, Y. V., & Orlova, L. A. (2007). First direct dating of a presumed Pleistocene hominid from China: AMS radiocarbon age of a femur from the Ordos Plateau. Journal of human evolution, 53(1), 1-5.

Hominids: Homo sapiens

Archaeology:

Important specimens: Ordos cranium

Notes: Ordos was at one time thought to be Pleistocene Homo sapiens based on age and preservation, but recent dates place it at about 300 years old. This cranium has been used to show the deep ancestry of eastern Eurasian skeletal morphology.

Location: Salawusu, Xarusgol (originally called Sjara-osso-gol and also Salawusu) River, Uxin Qi (Dabqig) County, Inner Mongolia, Mongolia
Map location/coordinates reference: Coordinates for Milanggouwan section of stratigraphically similar units in same formation. Actual position of cranium is not published. Zhou, W. Fossilized.org presents precise geographic locations and current best date estimates for late Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene sites with human ancestor (hominin) fossils and archaeology. Several interactive visual interfaces allow users to generate maps and tables that relate localities, fossils, tools, and evolutioanry events with geography and time. The data content is dynamic and is updated daily, as are new interface features. This site started as a course syllabus for Anthropology 3101: Human Evolution 2 at California State University, East Bay, and grew with each quarter it was used. Now fossilized.org has over 200 sites and hundreds of bibliographic citations.
